Who We Are

The Women’s Support Network (WSN) is York Region’s only sexual violence crisis centre. We are dedicated to providing free, nonjudgemental and confidential services to anyone who has experienced any form of sexual violence at some point in their lifetime.

We adhere to a grassroots, feminist, anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework. In other words, we believe everyone is their own expert and, while we offer tools and support, we honour everyone’s unique journey towards healing.

Our services cover all aspects of sexual violence – sexual assault, confusion whether it was sexual violence, childhood/historical sexual abuse, sexual harassment, online sexual violence, ritual abuse, human trafficking, sex work  and any other type of potential sexual violence.

Our Approach

Our vision is to eradicate sexual violence

We are part of a global community of women and we commit to work in solidarity to ensure women’s equality rights locally and internationally.

Our organization was established in 1992. Therefore, we have been proudly serving the York Region community for 27 years.

1. We are committed to providing service excellence by working from an integrated Feminist Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppressive framework that is person-centered and person–focused. We particularly acknowledge the differential impact of sexual violence on racialized and marginalized communities. We are committed to non-exclusionary policy, practice and programs. We serve all women who identify as women.

2. Education and knowledge is power. We are committed to supporting the education of
clients, as well as on-going education and self-care for staff, board members and

3. We are committed to a transparent continual review and evaluation of policy, programs and practice. We will measure equity by results, not by intentions. We have a commitment to provide a client space within our facilities and we actively seek client-driven direction and feedback.

4. We are committed to taking a lead role in the community as a catalyst for change, and will continue to have fresh ideas, innovations and “thinking outside of the box”.

Our 2013-2017 Strategic Plan focuses on moving forwards as an organization that is further connected to the York region community, not only as clients and partners but also as donors and board members in order to ensure sustainability. As always, we will continue to provide the best efforts for supporting survivors and preventing all forms of sexual violence.

Women’s Support Network Strategic Plan 2013-2017

The Women’s Support Network is dedicated to everyone in York Region who have experienced sexual violence in their lives and to all people working to end sexual violence.

Safe Passages Program

Safe Passages is a residential program for women who have experienced sexual exploitation. The Safe Passages Program allows survivors a consistent, safe environment to begin the process of healing from the layers of traumatic incidents they have been exposed to through sexual exploitation.

There are 3 components to the Program (survivors will participate in all three):

A 4-week pre-retreat group.
A 1-week residential retreat.
A 2-week post-retreat group.

For further details please click here.

How can you refer to Safe Passages, or learn more?
If you know a trafficked survivor who could benefit from this therapeutic intervention, please get in touch with us! Our Case Manager will provide individual support/advocacy to those who are/were “in the game.”

Every woman has the right to respect and dignity. At Women’s Support Network, we honour the wishes of each individual and will support their choices. We can provide condoms, bus tickets, giftcards, toiletries, and other essentials as needed. All communication is completely confidential and police will only become involved based on the wishes of the individual.

If you are feeling the need for support, we’re here to listen without judgement.

Please call our 24/7 Human Trafficking help line: 905.758.5285

We offer education on what human trafficking is, how to recognize the signs, and how to prevent someone from being exploited. Each presentation is developed with the specific audience in mind and what their needs entail. We provide trainings for frontline social service providers on how to recognize the signs of CSE (Commercial Sexual Exploitation) and how to support individuals who have experienced sex trafficking. We are open to attending community-based events as it is important for everyone to be aware of this seriousness of human trafficking in Canada.

Presentations are free of charge!
